They are characterized by long durability, simplicity of designs and quality of workmanship. The wool is often in natural colour, not coloured, and patterns and ornaments are oriental in style. Hand-woven carpets from Morocco as well as from Egypt and Tunisia are examples of North African carpets. Carpets have only been produced in this area since the 18th century. The history of weaving is not as rich here compared to Asian cultures. Moroccan carpets in the production process get certificates; it is worth knowing their meaning: blue label means the highest quality carpet, good quality is marked with an orange label, and green means the lowest quality product.
